The dreaded winter has arrived and, for many, it is now time to hide away in their cave and wait patiently for summer. It is true that the routine, the cold and the limited daylight are usually enough reasons for many people to feel pretty despondent during this time of year. However, at Velarte we think that this is the perfect time of year to explore and enjoy new ways of making the most of every day. Winter can be just as wonderful as any other season, so today is the day to enjoy it as much as it deserves.
We have therefore decided to propose 3 tips for making the most of the winter season, so you can see it in another light.
Every hour of daylight counts!
The first thing you should keep in mind during this period is something that we all always forget about: daylight savings time. We are used to Mediterranean life and all its extravagances, so it is very common to do certain activities at a time that only make sense in the summer (such as having dinner at 11pm or getting up at 10am). This advice may be the hardest to follow, but it is perhaps the most useful, since we would suggest that you pay more attention to the hours of daylight that are available to you in winter and know how to make the most of them.
During the winter season, the sun rises around 7 a.m. and sets around 6 p.m. However, we continue going to bed late and getting up late, so we lose hours of daylight that we could use to do a thousand different things. Try going to bed a little earlier and getting up earlier as well. You’ll see how the day will last longer and you will have time to do more things.
No more laziness
Another tip for starting the day with that extra dose of energy is exercising as soon as you wake up.
This may seem counter-productive, exhausting yourself before the day has even begun, but it is actually quite the opposite. Beginning the day with exercise invigorates your body and provides you with a prolonged energising feeling. It is also the time of day when we probably have no other commitments that might get in the way of us exercising, so we can be more consistent. It is important to start the day with this simple goal in mind, as it will be very satisfying and you will feel that you can overcome any challenge that comes your way.
We do recommend drinking at least 100 ml of water and eating something that contains both carbohydrates and protein, to increase the liver’s glycogen reserves and aid muscle growth and repair.
Every moment is important
The final piece of advice we have for you is to remember to live every moment to the fullest. It is common to think that cold weather prevents us from doing most things, so too often we end up staying at home bored and burning very few calories. But there are many things that you can do during the winter and it’s just a case of having a little imagination and motivation.
If you have to stay indoors because of bad weather, make it an adventure. Try new recipes, do some arts and crafts, play board games or just spend time with your loved ones.
And if you dare to leave the house, there are many indoor activities that can be just as much fun. You can go to your favourite restaurants, browse shopping centres, visit a museum or do anything else that you and your family can think of.
Don’t let winter get in your way, make the most of every day. Remember that it is up to you to enjoy each day to the fullest.
