Interview with Missohlaura

Let’s start at the beginning, who is Missohlaura? How did you become a social media foodie content creator?

I started by pure chance! I’m a content creator by profession, but I hadn’t thought much of my social media content. Towards the end of June 2020, I downloaded TikTok and to try it out I uploaded an ice cream recipe and… it went viral! Since I love to cook (and eat, let’s not lie), I kept uploading recipes without expecting too much from it… but here I am, just over a year later and with more than 235,000 followers. I don’t know if I can consider myself a TikToker, but I love sharing recipes with my community of followers, which is also growing on Instagram!

 

You’ve made two recipes that go really well with Velarte snacks. Tell us about them.

To make the most of Velarte breadsticks, I thought that recipes for snacking and sharing would be ideal. In addition, these breadsticks inspire me to make Mediterranean dishes, which are fresh and simple. So I have made Mutabal or Baba Ganoush, a dip from the same family as Hummus from Syria. Its main ingredient is aubergine. I also really wanted to make some tapenade, specifically green tapenade: we are used to black tapenade, but this one made with green olives is delicious. Best of all, these recipes are very quick and easy to make. You can see how simple they are if you watch the video!

 

What ingredients are you going to use?

The ingredients are very simple and easy to find, here’s a list for you to put them on your own shopping list.

For the Mutabal:

  • 2 aubergines
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • A pinch of cumin
  • Half a glass of water
  • Olive oil

For the Tapenade:

  • 160 stoned manzanilla olives
  • 30 g of almonds
  • A pinch of salt
  • A dash of olive oil
  • Cayenne pepper to taste

 

When is the perfect moment for these snacks?

These recipes are very versatile and can be used for many different occasions, you could serve them as a snack on the terrace at home, watching the football or as a starter for supper with friends. Suitable for any occasion!

 

What are the advantages of these recipes?

They are very healthy recipes and typical of the good things in the Mediterranean diet. They are also a perfect way to enjoy a tasty vegetable like aubergine in a dish that everyone will like, and to enjoy olives without resorting to just opening a jar and serving them.

 

What do the Velarte breadsticks add?

I’d say that without the breadsticks, the dips are no fun at all! Not only do they bring flavours together perfectly, they also help us to enjoy these recipes, dipping and sharing with your nearest and dearest. You can use these recipes in salads or sandwiches… but the best way to eat them is with breadsticks!

 

Do you think Velarte goes well with other recipes?

The best thing about Velarte products is that they give you room to be creative and combine the many different flavours of breadstick with fun recipes. The possibilities are endless!

 

Do you normally use natural products?

I pay a lot of attention to what I eat, so I use natural, local, fresh ingredients. When I buy anything I make sure that it isn’t ultra-processed and that I trust it as if I had made it at home myself.

 

Do you invent your own combinations or are you inspired by recipes you know?

It’s funny how in the kitchen there is so much room to be creative with products we use everyday! The recipes I make are all very homely, I really like traditional food and I think that to make the leap to being more creative it’s important to have a good base and master the slow cooker! Anything can give me inspiration, I base new creations on recipes I know, things I eat… although every now and then a light bulb comes on and I start making something that has suddenly occurred to me.

 

To finish… what are your goals? What can we expect from Missohlaura?

Lots of easy and tasty recipes, that’s for sure! I feel very fortunate that so many people like my recipes, share them, get inspired and dare to cook following a video of less than thirty seconds, so Missohlaura will be around for a while! I’m also thinking about new foodie content that I hope everyone will like. The future is uncertain but I can’t wait to see what it’s going to bring me!
